Lay Bet Session Management — When to Pull the Lay Down
Unlike most craps bets, the lay bet in the ATS hedge context has a clear natural endpoint: the roll either wins the lay (7 comes) or loses the lay (number hits and ATS completes). There is no ongoing session management question — the lay stays up until one of those two things happens. But there are session decisions around the lay worth understanding.
Do Not Lay a Number You Also Have on the Place Side
This is the most common lay bet mistake in ATS situations. You have a place bet on the 6 and you want to lay the 6 for the ATS hedge. These bets fight each other — the place bet loses on a 7, the lay bet loses on a 6. Pull all place bets before laying any number for ATS. One position, one direction.
New Shooter, New ATS Tracking
The ATS resets on every new point cycle at most casinos — check your specific casino's rules. When a shooter 7s out, the ATS tracking for that side is over. The lay bet resolved on that 7. Everything starts fresh on the next come-out. The lay position does not carry over.
When Not to Lay
If the remaining ATS number is not a box number — say, the 2 or the 12 — you cannot lay it. Lay bets are only available on the six box numbers. In those cases the lay hedge is not an option and you simply hold your other bets and hope the non-box number rolls before the 7. Bluffin With Aces covers this constraint in YouTube sessions where the ATS needed a non-box number to complete.
